song of afternoons that are too hot
May. 28th, 2019 03:36 pmFrom March's oven blast to October's swelter
Whether I'm outside or under a shelter
Nasty, grimy, drooling heat
Embraces me from scalp to feet
I tried to drink a lemonade
And fan my bosom in the shade
Or splash some water on my head
But still I felt like something dead
Nice days are few and far apart
When summer comes with fiery dart
No one can maintain mental acuity
When simmering in humid stewity
So when the afternoon descends
That's when my summer work day ends
I shut the blinds, turn on the fan
And sleep until it's dark again.
Whether I'm outside or under a shelter
Nasty, grimy, drooling heat
Embraces me from scalp to feet
I tried to drink a lemonade
And fan my bosom in the shade
Or splash some water on my head
But still I felt like something dead
Nice days are few and far apart
When summer comes with fiery dart
No one can maintain mental acuity
When simmering in humid stewity
So when the afternoon descends
That's when my summer work day ends
I shut the blinds, turn on the fan
And sleep until it's dark again.
