some moments are better than others

yesterday I died and not for the first time
I had to sort my moments into stacks
one for the rotten and one for the sublime
and one for the bad choices I wouldn't take back
and an a box marked miscellaneous
I dumped each indivisible second
that was good and bad in a mixture simultaneous
whose ultimate value could not be reckoned
the labor was pointless and I said so
some dude said you don't get to choose, you're dead bro

but isn't the whole point of being dead, I implore us
that you can finally stop analyzing your choices?
well that shows a lack of understanding, came the chorus
of harsh and judgmental voices
there isn't any point, they said, in being alive or deceased
it's just a biological condition
and as for your choices it doesn't matter in the least
how many you have in whatever box they go in
then I woke up and lo I wasn't really dead yet
which I probably should have guessed from the outset
