all this highlighting doesn't bode well
the writer thinks what you have read
has a point but it's still hard to tell
the reader is lingering long
in the grass by the side of the freeway
the writer is loping along
in the shoulder of all that he can't say
whatever you're trying to say here
wherever you're trying to lead us
whatever old-vegetable starved deer
pile of doughnuts you're trying to feed us
the writer is calling you out
from the shadows and onto the blacktop
from the bushes and wrappers around you
the writer will never back out
now that the writer has found you
he will wheedle and heckle and hound you
till you put your poor paws on that pavement
till you stumble bewildered and dazed
through the maze of whatever he meant
