ever since I was a child at school
wall to wall carpet has been the rule
sometimes shag as green as grass
and sometimes curls like a fluffy dog's ass
but more than anything the beige
and grimy carpet coats the stage
of each day like a furry tongue
ever since I was very young
I've wanted to live in a place with floors
that were made of wood with a rug by the doors
or anywhere a rug was wanted
instead by wall to wall carpet I am haunted
