The creek that runs by them is a river of pains
and also of municipal sewerage drains

some rivers are straight and some rivers are sinuous
some rivers are stuttered and some are continuous
some rivers are drums and some ukuleles
some rivers are potholes some rivers are souls
some rivers are Miller High Life and some Bailey's

a river isn't something you can store in a pantry shelf
your veins are a river whose crawdads are life itself
the beauty of rivers today is still stopping hearts
if your soul is a river don't fill it with shopping carts
