I was born about a thousand years ago today
I am no stranger to the vissictudes of fame
one time I wrote a book that I thought was pretty okay
but it turned out to be popular and lame

when the right people give your new book a mention
their rightness is transferred to you
but when hacks spray your work with their spores of attention
that wrongness grows over you too

when people who loved Icy Sparks and Mike Crichton
turn around and give your book publicity
then bad taste disfigures your novel like lichen
it smothers it it in infelicity
