voice of a generation

some people think talking about generations is fun
but poets are weird bastard orphans
sometimes a song carries them 50 years into the future where they don't know anyone
sometimes they are flooded with the past's stale endorphins
sometimes I think about the great age of the planet
as I struggle to mind getting old
a generation is not very much of a clan it
is a bill of goods people get sold
sometimes a generation is less than it appears
maybe it's just a bunch of different guys
a poet will never be the voice of most of his peers
no matter how much he or she tries
