betteroffbada farmer can only count on himself
to do the work right with no fuss
that's why agriculture never took off
it was too much trouble for most of us
if you want something done better do it yourself
otherwise its a hell of a pain
that's why there's no beer on the supermarket shelf
no supermarket and no grain
a poet can only count on himself
to love what takes shape from his fingers
heaven help a poet if he develops a cough
or a pain in his throat that lingers
we all only ever could count on ourselves
it's a rough life but good if you're strong
that's why computers were never invented
i've been talking to myself all along
