rejection is always very hard to take
but did you know it's also hard to give?
I am being extremely sincere and not fake
when I tell you I wish all the prizes were mine to give
rejection is a word no one likes to hear said
in its verb or noun forms or as a gerund
if only I could accept everything everyone ever made
and the word rejection would be disappearund
once I sent a poem to a famous magazine
it came back with a form rejection note
when I saw it I started to cry and to keen
like 1000 babies on the world's saddest boat
rejection rejection on further reflection
I wish there were no such a thing as rejection
it's hard for inspiration to maintain its erection
when all round it rains the cold shower of rejection
dear poets I wish I could make a beautiful book where
I'd publish your poetry infinite
actually this probably already exists on the internet somewhere
and nobody bothers to look at it
all you who struggle with rejection and its discontents
should know I am struggling alongside
I would never reject anyone that's my two cents
if I owned this poetry ride
but did you know it's also hard to give?
