not every poem is a world unto itself
some poems for example are paltry
some poems never rise above the dust of the local authors shelf
while others spiral wildly toward John Galtry

a pigeon tried to take off from the sticky asphalt base
of the image of a park in a poem I wrote
it smacked into its boundaries like the wall of a specimin case
and tumbled to the ground fatally smote

some poems are open and some poems are closed
it's no secret which one most prefer
some poems are puddles whose depth no one knows
in which unknown animals stir
