song of checking the mail
Sep. 11th, 2019 01:48 pmin this stanza I am about to check the mail
I am full of hope as I put on my shoes and prepare to check the mail
I hope that what I get today will be fresh and not stale
not 100 coupons in a bundle or that ad for insurance that looks like a card
for a moment everything will be possible as I walk bright as a shard
of glass in the sun to the mailbox in hopes that mail will be waiting
I have put it off for an hour or so to prolong the sweet anticipating
in this next stanza I have gone to the mailbox and come back
groaning under the weight of all the mail that I lack
so much for anticipation now I have to wait a whole other day
to check for mail in the usual way
even a bundle of coupons would almost be preferred
to going to the mailbox and coming back without a word
all I can do now is go to the post office and send
some mail to prevent this from happening to a friend
